Being an Israeli

Israel is very small geographically. The size of the country creates a very unique closeness among Israelis. Add to that the security situation and the fact that most Israelis serve in the army and you get a nation that is one big family. On Friday night at dinner, you often have arguments between granddad, his son or daughter, and the grandchild as to which one of them served in the better unit. The feeling that Israel is not yet safe as a country and that the struggle goes on, creates a unique closeness among the people, as you will see in the video below. The close proximity of the country also enables families to see each other on a daily or weekly basis, even when the children are long married and gone from home. When Israel faces an external problem, all Israelis become one – worrying together, helping each other, volunteering for anything needed and watching out for each other. Unique behavior in a very unique and special country – Israel.
