The band ring in engraved with the Hebrew letters חסד Chessed commonly translated as “loving-kindness,” one of the ten Sephirot on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. It is given the association of kindness and love, and is the first of the emotive attributes of the sephirot.

At the time of the Holy Temple, the High Priest of Israel would wear special, breathtaking ceremonial attire.
