Nachum Gutman
Nahum Gutman was one of Israel\’s most well known artists.
Nachum Gutman was born in Odessa in 1898, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1905. He studied in the Bezalel Academy of Arts as a teenager, but rebelled against the European style of painting taught at that time in the Academy, claiming that it was inappropriate for the Israeli light and landscape.
Gutman worked in a variety of media. His sculptures and mosaics can be seen in many sites in Tel Aviv, including the Shalom Tower and the Chief rabbinate.
In addition to painting, Gutman also wrote and illustrated children’s books. He was given the Israel Prize in 1978 for his work in Hebrew children’s literature.
Nachum Gutman died in Tel Aviv , on November 28, 1980.
Today there is a museum in Tel Aviv namely The Gutman Museum that showcases the works of this incredible artist
